The two directives are the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment). By July 1st, 2006, electronic devices produced in or exported to Europe must be free of lead. This legislation in Europe has an impact worldwide on all manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.

Circuit boards used in automotive, aerospace, military and high-reliability telecommunications equipment are exempt from this legislation.
