Detection of printed circuit boards (PCBs) used to be a tricky task. Slots and holes in the boards, irregularly shaped components on the boards, and variable color and reflectivity meant that sometimes a sensor didn't detect a PCB.
Consistent and precise detection of PCBs and other irregular targets is now handily accomplished by the ML8 photoelectric sensors for PCB detection.
ML8 convergent models offer a narrow sensing strip to detect the width of the object while still allowing precise, repeatable detection of edges. Older diffuse mode sensors can miss darker colored components and boards and, because of their large light spot size, they don't allow much repeatability in detection.
