Phoenix Contact is a manufacturer of industrial automation, interconnection, and interface solutions developing industrial electrical and electronic technology products that power, protect, connect and automate systems and equipment. Currently, headquartered in Blomberg, Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany, the company makes terminal blocks, relays, connectors, signal conditioners, power supplies, controllers & PLCs, I/O systems, Industrial Ethernet, controller system cabling, PCB terminal blocks & connectors, and surge suppression. Founded in 1923, in Esse, Germany, the company was founded by Hugo Knümann as a commercial agency for electrical products and sells contact wire terminals for electric trams. The company became Phönix Elektrizitätsgesellschaft (Phoenix Electricity Company). The offices were destroyed in an air raid during the Second World War in 1943 and took the company 5 years to come back to Essen. Following the war, Knümann enlisted Josef Eisert, who owned numerous terminal block patents, as technical director for his company. Eisert revised the entire product range. Six years later, in 1953, following Knumann’s death, Eisert and the company’s first employee, Ursala Lampmann too over Management of Phoenix Klemmen which eventually became Phoenix Feinbeau and then Phoenix Contact Group. By 2017, the company had manufacturing facilities in over 10 nations: Germany, USA, China, India, Poland, Greece, Brazil, Turkey, Sweden and Argentina and employs 12,900 employees in 50 international subsidiaries. It also had annual sales of over 2.2 million Euros in 2017.
